LATE ARRIVAL/EARLY CHECKOUT
LATE ARRIVAL/EARLY CHECKOUT
To expedite late check ins and early check outs, please send your student with a note to turn in at the Attendance Office. Students are required to check in at the office if they are late for the school day. If a campus pass is not picked up at the office before class time for early check outs, there could be significant delays in releasing your student from class. If your student is scheduled in PE during time of check out, please add 15 minutes to release time. Students leaving during nutrition break, lunch or between class periods, will not be delivered a paper pass, instead a digital pass will be sent to them on the Minga app.
OAK RIDGE IS A CLOSED CAMPUS. STUDENTS MAY NOT LEAVE CAMPUS DURING SCHOOL HOURS, WHICH INCLUDES LUNCH, WITHOUT A PASS/PRIOR APPROVAL If your student does not have prior approval BEFORE leaving campus, they will receive one hour of detention – no exceptions.
ATTENDANCE ERRORS
ATTENDANCE ERRORS
Occasionally students will be marked absent in error. The Attendance Office needs verification from the teacher before the error can be fixed. Please have your student pick up a purple pass to be signed by their teacher to clear up the error and return to the Attendance Office. Lunch detentions will be assigned if this process is not followed.
EXTENDED ABSENCES
EXTENDED ABSENCES
Students who will be unable to attend school for an extended period of time, (16 or more school days) should contact the Counseling Department to discuss possibilities for alternative learning options.
HOMEWORK REQUESTS/MAKEUP WORK
HOMEWORK REQUESTS/MAKEUP WORK
If your student is absent from school, homework should be requested directly from their teacher. You or your student can email your student's teachers using the teacher's first initial and last name @eduhsd.net or from the Staff Directory on the ORHS Webpage.
Two (2) school days will be allowed to make up each day's excused absence. Please see the Student Handbook for further details.
18 YEAR OLD STUDENTS
18 YEAR OLD STUDENTS
Oak Ridge High School requests a parent signature on file before an 18-year-old student can verify their own absence(s). ORHS Attendance will email the parent/guardian at the beginning of the month of your student(s) 18th birthday. A follow-up email will be sent to parent/guardian to inform all parties that all signatures have been obtained and student may verify their own absences. Should a student be denied, parent will be notified via email and the student will be made aware during a short conference. The 18-year-old form is available HERE or for pick up at the Attendance Office.
STUDENT ATHLETES
STUDENT ATHLETES
Student athletes must attend over 50% of their school day on the day of a game or practice in order to participate. Students will receive a digital pass on the Minga App to leave class early for a game or meet.
Truancy
Truancy
When a student has repeated absences for unacceptable reasons (ditching classes, unverified illness related to excessive absences) the student will be considered a "habitual truant". Student(s) who fail to improve after the initial attendance review meeting with the Dean of Student Services will be referred to Student Attendance Review Board Hearing (SARB). Habitual truancy constitutes grounds for an involuntary transfer to an alternative school and a student’s driving privilege may be revoked.
Attendance Letters
Attendance Letters will be sent home to families for students who acquire days of truancy or have excessive absences. Families will be informed via email and/or text from School Status Attend and sent a letter home in the mail.
Truancy Letter #1:Students who acquire 3 or more days with any absences considered Unexcused.
Truancy Letter #2: Students who acquire 6 or more unexcused absences. A meeting with an Administrator will be scheduled and may be referred to a contract with Student Attendance Review Team (SART)
Truancy Letter #3: Students who acquire 9 or more unexcused absences. Families may be referred to School Attendance Review Board (SARB).
Excessive Absence Letter #1: Students who acquire 20 or more class period absences . This letter is for notification purposes that attendance is on a decline.
Excessive absence Letter #2: Students who have missed 10% or more of the school year and are now considered excessively absent. Verification of further absences will require documentation from a doctor. Should your student have a medical condition that prevents regular attendance, please complete a Chronic Illness Form
